A study by Barna Research Group finds that four in five Americans adults (78 percent) have been married at least once. Among adults who have been married, one-third (33 percent) have experienced at least one divorce. However, the percentage of divorced varies widely among various demographic groups. This report is based on a random sample survey of 5,017 U.S. adults during January 2007 and January 2008.

Catholics are the least likely to have divorced (28 percent), followed by those who consider themselves to be conservative on social and political matters (28 percent), evangelicals (26 percent), and Asians (20 percent).

The groups most likely to divorced are baby boomers (38 percent), those aligned with a non-Christian faith (38 percent), those who consider themselves to be liberal on social and political matters (37 percent), and African Americans (36 percent).
