Ave Maria Press. Notre Dame, IN. 2007. Pp. 379

An Excerpt from the Jacket:

Sacred Space the prayer book 2008 is a prayer guide inspired by the very popular, successful, interactive website www.sacredspace.ie . Both offer a way to reflect and pray each day of the year. Both present a time to quietly connect with God and a space to be spiritually nourished, healed, challenged, and transformed.

Inaugurated in 1999 by Alan McGuckian, S.J., and Peter Scally, S.J., of the Jesuit Communication Centre in Ireland, the site has logged over twenty million visits. The site is translated into twenty languages, and people from around the world come together to pray online.

Now you can pray and reflect wit Sacred Space anytime and any place. The Prayer Book 2008 offers a daily Scripture selection, followed by points of inspiration to help you consider the passage and its relevance to daily life. The book also provides weekly themes, and you are encouraged to reflect every day on the six stages of prayer specially created for the theme of the week.

An Excerpt from the Book:

Sunday 2nd December

First Sunday of Advent Romans 13:11-12

Besides this, you know what time it is, how it is now the moment for you to wake from sleep. For salvation is nearer to us now than when we became believers; the night is far gone, the day is near. Let us then lay aside the works of darkness and put on the armor of light.

- “Salvation is nearer to us now than when we became believers.” It is a powerful connection that Paul makes, between our belief in Jesus and a sense of urgency in how we live and what we do.

- Has my belief in Jesus really changed me? Have I allowed it to change me?

- Do I fend change off, moving it to “another day”?
